Empire Curule Stool in Walnut with Saddle Brown Tufted Leather

Two scrolled X-frames carry the seat of this Empire curule stool, crossing at carved rosettes the way Napoleonic cabinetmakers borrowed the form from Roman curule seats. The frame is solid walnut under a warm fruitwood finish, and the silhouette reads correctly from every angle - a piece meant to sit in the open, not against a wall.

The top is saddle brown leather, tufted into a low diamond pattern and comfortable enough for real use at 24 inches wide, 15 deep, and 22 high. That height puts it at the foot of a bed, under a console table, or pulled up as extra seating when the room fills.

Walnut and leather both improve with handling; expect the finish to gain depth where feet and hands find it. It pairs naturally with mahogany, aged brass, and anything Empire or Regency.
