Fine wood furniture responds to its environment. Keep pieces away from heat sources including radiators, fireplaces, and forced-air vents, all of which can cause wood to warp or the finish to deteriorate over time. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade or dry out the surface. Use coasters and placemats to protect the finish from moisture and heat. For routine care, dust with a soft cloth moving with the grain. Wipe spills immediately with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry thoroughly. Apply a quality furniture wax or polish once or twice a year to preserve the finish. When moving furniture, always lift rather than drag to protect joints and legs.
