Blue Book Set in Shagreen-Embossed Leather, Set of 12

Twelve volumes make up this Blue Book Set, bound in shagreen-embossed leather with a fine pebbled grain that takes the light unevenly across the covers. The blue is deep and consistent from book to book, and the page edges are gilt, so a thin line of gold shows along the side of every stack. They come as two stacks of six, graduated in size within each stack.

Sizes run from 7 to 10 inches wide and 5 to 7 inches high, each volume about an inch deep. That range is what makes them useful for styling: the larger books sit flat as a plinth for a lamp or a small bronze, the smaller ones fill the gap at the end of a shelf, and a short stack lifts a tray or a picture frame clear of the table.

Blue against gold is a Deco combination, and these read that way on a mirrored console or a lacquered shelf. In a library of brown spines the color lifts a whole run at once. Twelve volumes give enough material to spread across several rooms - a few on a coffee table, a stack in a bookcase, one or two on a bedside table under a reading lamp.
