Deco Klismos Dining Chairs in White with Cream Seats, Sets of 2

The crest rail is the tell on these Klismos Dining Chairs: a bar that sweeps across the top of the back and rolls gently rearward, the T-shape that Deco designers borrowed from Greek originals. Saber legs splay front and back in the same classical manner. The finish is white, with no carving anywhere on the frame, so the whole chair comes down to line and proportion. The seat is upholstered in plain cream fabric.

Each chair is 20 inches wide with a seat height of 21 inches, which is taller than the usual dining chair, so check the apron of your table before ordering. The trade-off is an unusually easy reach to the tabletop and a seat that is simple to get in and out of. The narrow width lets six sit along a standard rectangular table, and the open back keeps a small dining room from feeling walled in.

A white frame and a cream seat disappear into a pale room, which is the point when the table itself is the thing worth looking at. Set them around dark timber for contrast, or against a limed or painted table for something quieter. They suit a Deco dining room, a garden room, or a kitchen where a fully upholstered chair would be too much furniture in the space.
