The wood is deep and warm rather than pale, so the frame draws a clear outline around the fabric instead of dissolving into it. Cream above and dark brown below, with the curve of the leg standing as the only ornament the chair asks for.

The chairs run 23 by 24 inches with 39 inch backs, which puts them at the generous end of a dining chair without turning into an arm chair. That width stays comfortable through a long meal, and the tall back gives a full set real presence around a big table. Six will fill a long rectangular table, and four suit a round one.
